After the successful inaugural collaboration with the Farnborough Symphony Orchestra of the United Kingdom, MPIMC is proud to announce the return of the MPIMC Concerto Competition!
The concerto competition is open to all participants of the 2024 MPIMC. There will be a recorded preliminary round, from which 6 finalists will be chosen to perform in the final round in Switzerland during MPIMC.
MPIMC will fly the winner of the competition to London to perform during the 25-26 FSO season (January 2026) under the direction of William Carslake.

Anne Chao
Anne Chao was born in United States and grew up in Taiwan, where she began her flute studies at the age of 10. Her teachers have included Shu-Chun Chiang, Tzu Kao, and Hui-Hsueh Sun. She has also performed in master classes given by Mario Bonzagni, Michel Moragues, Roswitha Stage, James Walker, Andrea Oliva, Aleksandr Haskin, Petri Alanko, and Robert Dick. Anne received the first place at the New Taipei City Music Competition, the Excellent Award at 7th TSB Concerto Competition, the First prizes at the Taipei Asia Pacific Competition and at the National Taiwan Music Competition, and second place in the Taipei City Music Competition.
Currently, she is pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in flute performance at the New England Conservatory under Dr. Renee Krimsier.
Giorgio Consolati
Praised for his “lustrous tone” (Musical America), Italian flutist Giorgio Consolati is committed to presenting diverse programs showcasing pieces that range from masterworks of the flute repertoire to newly-commissioned works.
Giorgio’s career highlights include performances at Alice Tully Hall, Carnegie Hall, Miami’s New World Center, and the Beijing China Conservatory. He appeared on stage in David Geffen Hall performing Rouse’s Flute Concerto with Alan Gilbert and the Juilliard Orchestra as well as with the National Repertory Orchestra and the Verdi Conservatory Orchestra in Milan. Giorgio has served as principal flutist under the batons of Alan Gilbert, Gianandrea Noseda, David Robertson, and Speranza Scappucci. Giorgio has performed at festivals such as the Marlboro Music Festival, Avaloch Farm Music Institute, the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, and at the contemporary festival Milano Musica, While attending Juilliard, Giorgio often collaborated with AXIOM and the New Juilliard Ensemble.
A native of Milan, Giorgio is the first flutist in the Verdi Conservatory’s history to graduate with top honors and honorable mention. He received both his Bachelor and Master of Music degrees at The Juilliard School studying with Carol Wincenc as a recipient of a Kovner Fellowship. He is an Artist Diploma candidate at the Peabody Institute under the tutelage of Marina Piccinini and has been mentored by Sir James Galway.
Sooah Jeon
12-year-old Sooah Jeon has distinguished herself as one of the most promising young flutists of her generation. She was awarded the first prize in various music competitions in the United States, including the American Protégé, International Grande Music Competition and the New York International Music Competition, the New York Flute Club Young Musicians Contest, the South Carolina Flute Society Competition, and the Camerata Artists International Concerto Competition. At the age of nine, Sooah was officially announced as the world’s youngest flutist to receive a Performance Diploma with distinction award from the Associate of the Royal Schools of Music in the United Kingdom.
As a soloist, Sooah has performed at New York’s Bruno Walter Auditorium at Lincoln Center, Merkin Concert Hall and at both Weill Recital Hall and Isaac Stern Auditorium at Carnegie Hall. Since her solo debut with the New Jersey Camerata Orchestra, she has performed as a soloist with numerous orchestras, including the Concert Festival Orchestra, New York Chamber Players Orchestra and the 92Y Orchestra. She has performed at the Royal Albert Hall in London and the Cité de la Musique Amphithéâtre in Paris as the first prize and exceptional young talent special prize winner of the 2019 Grand Prize Virtuoso International Music Competition.
Sooah currently studies with renowned flutist Carol Wincenc at the Juilliard School’s Pre-College Division and Patricia Zuber at the Elisabeth Morrow School. Her former teachers include Wonmi Kim, Joohee Lee and Soo-Kyung Park.
Norman Menzales
Filipino-American flutist, Norman Menzales, joined the Great Falls Symphony of Montana as Principal Flutist in September 2012 and was appointed the same position with Colorado’s Fort Collins Symphony in May 2013. He has performed with the Buffalo Philharmonic in New York, the Erie Chamber Orchestra in Pennsylvania, the Chattanooga Symphony in Tennessee, and the Western Piedmont Symphony in North Carolina, among others.
An artist dedicated to sharing his passion for music, Norman frequently performs with Montana’s premier woodwind quintet, the Chinook Winds and strives to bring live, classical music to rural communities throughout the Northwest.
Norman graduated from the North Carolina School of the Arts with a Bachelor of Music degree with Dr. Tadeu Coelho and went on to the Eastman School of Music where he received a Master of Music degree and Performer’s Certificate with Bonita Boyd. When not playing the flute, Norman enjoys cooking, movies, and spending as much time as he can with his husband and their Cocker-Spaniel, Daphne.
Christian Paquette
Principal flutist of the York Symphony, Christian Paquette is currently also pursuing a Doctorate of Musical Arts with Marina Piccinini at the Peabody Institute, having previously completed a Graduate Performance Diploma there. He earned a Masters degree at the New England Conservatory under Paula Robison and a Bachelors degree with Camille Churchfield and Denis Bluteau in his native Canada.
Christian is the recipient of numerous competition awards, including first prize at the Yale Gordon Concerto Competition in Baltimore, the Canadian Music Competition in 2010, as well as second place at the National Music Festival of Canada in 2012. As a soloist he has performed the Nielsen Concerto with the Peabody Symphony under Maestro Muguel earth-Bedoys, the Ibert and Nielsen Concerto with the University of Ottawa Symphony Orchestra, as well as the Rodrigo Concierto Pastoral with the Ottawa Chamber Orchestra.
Christian also completed an orchestral conducting apprenticeship in Ottawa’s Summer Music Institute with Maestro Pinchas Zukerman. He was the assistant conductor for the University of Ottawa Choir in 2009, conductor of the University Opera Productions performances of Mozart's ‘The Marriage of Figaro’ in 2010 and ‘The Magic Flute’ in 2011, as well as Artistic Director of a staged production of Stravinsky’s ‘Histoire du soldat' in 2013.
Denis Savelyev
Born in Lviv, Ukraine, Mr. Savelyev began studying the flute at age five at the Krushelnitska Special Music School, and after graduation was awarded a place at the Gnesin Academy of Music in Moscow. He also earned both his MM and Professional Studies Diploma at the Mannes School of Music in New York, where he studied with Judith Mendenhall.
Mr. Savelyev is a winner of multiple competitions, including 1st Prize in the 2017 New York Flute Club Competition, 2nd Prize at the 2019 Young Artist Competition of the National Flute Association and 2nd Prize at the 2019 New Jersey Flute Society Young Artist Competition. As a soloist, he has performed at venues such as the Kennedy Center, Merkin Hall, Ukrainian Institute of America, the Moscow Music House, Lviv Philharmonic, at the University of Nevada, and at Carnegie Hall. Orchestral positions include the Mariinsky Theater in Vladivostok, the New York Symphony Ensemble on its Japanese tour in 2016, and the Manhattan Symphonie. He is currently a member of The Orchestra Now under the direction of Leon Botstein in New York.
Hannah Tassler
Hannah Tassler is a junior at the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University pursuing a Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance. Hannah is from Colorado Springs and has played in the Colorado Springs Youth Symphony, the Denver Young Artists Orchestra, and many Colorado All State ensembles. She began piano studies at age 5, classical guitar at 7, and began flute studies at 11, picking up piccolo soon after. Named the 2014 Rising Star of the US Galway Festival, she has additionally placed in competitions within Colorado and beyond.
Hannah has performed in Carnegie Hall, Prague, Berlin, and Japan and has been a member of the Schloss Moritzburg Orchestra Academy in Germany. She was a finalist in the 2017 NFA High School Soloist Competition and performed at the convention in Minneapolis. Hannah most recently studied with Brook Ferguson, current principal flute of the Colorado Symphony and an alumna of the Piccinini Flute Studio.
